When was the last time you took a chance to pause, and just notice?
What I notice first, and most, is birdsong. No matter the season, there are so many different whoops, melodies, honks, and chatterings.
The noisy nudges make everything else seem still, somehow. The trilling reminders of birds are so preferable to the pings and buzzes from our pockets and desktops. They are simple, and simply joyful.
Today I invite you to step outside, or open a window. I invite you to remove the earbuds and turn off the news. I invite you to let the earth rise up to greet you, to notice the gentle solemnity of the nearest tree trunk and the hush that hovers around a stratospheric cloud.
Taking a mindful moment to simply notice can help reset the chaotic thoughts and disrupters around you. Giving yourself just one minute to let the world hold you up and exist without your involvement can soothe and settle your heart.
Today, I remind myself to pause. To breathe. To notice.
