For calm, clarity, and gratitude

Today’s hot tip: Gratitude and resentment cannot coexist. 

If you’re battling feelings of resentment, quick! Find something for which to be grateful. There is always, always something.

It can be tiny, tiny! It can be silly, silly! But that ounce  of gratitude can manifest a physiological response that is more powerful than a pound of discontent.

GRATITUDE can make us happier!

When I say that gratitude has a physiological response, I mean it! Just the *act* of bringing the *sensation* of gratitude into your heart can calm your pulse, slow your breathing, and lighten your shoulders. Similar to the act of curling your lips into a smile and suddenly realizing you're not as sad; bringing the fulfilling sense of gratefulness into your heart can banish those creepy lurking annoyances.

TRY IT! Say gently to yourself, "I am so thankful for all that I have."

Again.

Again.

Pause with gratitude to reflect on the fact that you are right where you are meant to be at this very moment. That this moment is all we ever truly have.

Even as we set our sights on goals for the future, it is vital to stay PRESENT in this moment.

Box Breathing Technique

Sama Vritti Pranayama is a powerful relaxation tool that can help clear your mind, relax your body, and allow you to focus. The best part? You can do it anywhere. Just find a comfortable seat with your back supported and feet on the floor.

  1. Close your eyes. Breathe in through your nose, slowly counting to 4. Feel the air filling your lungs.

  2. Hold your breath here and slowly count to 4 again. Try not to clamp your airways shut. Simply avoid inhaling or exhaling for 4 counts.

  3. Slowly exhale to the count of 4.

  4. Hold the exhale for another 4 counts.

  5. Repeat steps 1–4 for 4 minutes or until you feel calm and centered.

Try this breathing technique as a chance to recognize the ease and relaxation that our conscientious breath can provide.
